Designing Legs

The artificially-legged Aimee Mullins watches the also artificially-legged Hugh Herr climb the wall at the MIT Media Lab's h2.0 symposium on 9 May, 2007. She is the woman with the clear legs in Matthew Barney's 'Cremaster'. Aimee is a double amputee since the age of 1.

Aimee Mullins: How my legs give me super-powers
Athlete, actor and activist Aimee Mullins talks about her prosthetic legs -- she's got a dozen amazing pairs by such fashion designers as Alexander McQueen -- and the superpowers they grant her: speed, beauty, an extra 6 inches of height ... Quite simply, she redefines what the body can be. A record-breaker at the Paralympic Games in 1996, Aimee Mullins has built a career as a model, actor and activist for women, sports and the next generation of prosthetics.
