Circle of Animals | Zodiac Heads is the first installment of famed contemporary artist Ai WeiWei's interpretation of the 12 Zodiac heads designed in the 18th Century by two European jesuits during the reign of the Manchu Emperor Qianlong. After a pillaging in 1860 by French and British troops only 7 of the original heads remain in tact today. WeiWei's exhibition presents copies of the originals on a large scale and explores themes of real versus fake, value and authenticity in regards to a social and political context. However, the art installation is fit for all ages including children, the Zodiac heads can be understood and appreciated everyone.
