The entrance to Madison Square Park may currently be occupied by a massive inflatable spider with the face of Lady Gaga — all part of a buzz-building initiative for the singer’s holiday workshop at Barney’s — but inside the park's gates, subtler, quieter sculptures abound. For the last three months, Madison Square Park has played host to six sculptures by Los Angeles-based artist Alison Saar. Each of the sculptures focuses on humans’ — or rather, women’s — relationship with nature and the changing of the seasons. Four of the pieces were commissioned especially for the site by the park’s art program.
